A Study on Head Nurses¢¥ Attitude To the Clinical Nursing Teaching


Abstract
The objective of this study is to improve the clinical nursing education by identifying the attitude to the clinical nursing teaching of head nurse.
For this purpose, a survey was conducted to 56 head nurses in four general hospitals from january 6th to july 31th 1992.
The results were as follows:
1. The maximum number of student-nurse in a ward was 3 4 students and it took about 30 minutes a day for head nurse to teach the student-nurse, the most training type given to the student-nurse was "teaching the nursing acting by staff-nurse" (44.6 %), 69.6 % of head nurses provided planned clinical nursing teaching.
2. 82.1 % of head nurses considered the clinical nursing teaching as their duty, 33.9 % of head nurses were not satisfied about their teaching fo the student-nurse, 66.1 % of head nurses thought student-nurse helpful for the nursing acting of the nursing unit.
3. Contents of the clinical nursing teaching as follows : the fundamental nursing skill and the orientation on the nursing acting were the most frequent teaching contents, charting technique and the knowledge of disease were the lest clinical nursing teaching contents,and the most of head nurse considered the fundamental nursing as the most important contents.
4. Looking at the attitude about the exactitude in the clinical performance evaluation, the 48.2 % of head nurse considered her evaluation as almost exact.
5. The most difficult item in teaching student was "the lack of time in teaching the student nurse.
6. The responces for the items requiring for the effective clinical teaching are as follows:
"surficient teaching time" 53.6 %, the top, and next in order, "sufficient reading materials about clinical nursing teaching" 33.9 %.
